Our visit started at Hope Plantation which helps explain how the 'common man' of the 1700's lived in the south. So often when people think of a 'plantation' they think of a mansion, huge pieces of property, and lots of slaves doing the work, while the owner sat around watching. Hope Plantation depicts a much different lifestyle. Most of the homes were very small, the owner worked alongside the slaves which may number 1 - 4 for an 'average' plantation owner.
Marc and Rachael made hand-dipped candles at Hope Plantation before we moved onto the main part of the town. What a great day to experience the sights and sounds of Colonial Williamsburg!

As we left Williamsburg, I felt torn...I hated to leave the colonial pace of life, but I do enjoy the present day luxeries.
